Below, we’ll teach you how to make this square with a pumpkin and stem, as well as give you some fun project ideas to use them in as well.
How To Make a Crochet Pumpkin Square
To be able to make this pumpkin granny square, you’ll need to know some basic stitches and have a few crocheting supplies on hand. Learn more below.
Supplies
Yarn: This square is made with a six weight yarn (aka super bulky weight yarn) called Wool-Ease Thick & Quick by Lionbrand in Fisherman, Grass (stem) and Spice (pumpkin). If you’d like to use a different weight yarn, that would work as well, but keep in mind the finished square size will not be the same.
Crochet Hook: This square was worked up with an N-9 mm crochet hook. If you choose to use a different yarn weight, follow along with the recommended crochet hook size on the label of the yarn.
Scissors: We recommend a nice pair of stork scissors, but any pair of scissors will work for cutting yarn ends when needed.
Yarn Needle: It is a good idea to use a yarn needle (aka tapestry needle) to weave in yarn ends that have been cut. Learn how to weave in yarn ends, so you get a perfect crochet square every time!
Stitch Markers: Stitch markers are a good to use to mark the first stitch of each round. This way, you’ll be able to know where it starts and keep your stitch count correct as you work in the round.
Measuring Tape: Great for making sure the square turns out the size you intended.

On the pattern when changing to color b and doing the corners, the instructions have you making 5 corners. I did 4 sc then the half double and then the dc chain 1 DC the amount of times written and by the time you make the stem you are 1 stitch away from the beginning single crochet stitches.
Thanks Kristen,
I added one too many in there. The joys of pattern writing. It is fixed now.
